Federal Skilled Worker Program for Permanent Residency
Like the CEC and FSTP, the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is managed under the Express Entry system. However, candidates do not need Canadian work experience. Instead, selection is based on points achieved through a comprehensive assessment of work experience, language ability, and education. You can only apply for PR if you have the highest CRS score.
Are you a highly skilled professional looking to immigrate to Canada and obtain permanent residency? The Federal Skilled Worker Program could be the right option for you.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- At least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent part-time work experience in a skilled occupation within the last ten years.
- The work experience must be in an occupation classified under skill level 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the NOC system.
- No criminal background or financial fraud.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English or French (CLB 7) through a language test recognized by IRCC.
- A Canadian high school diploma or equivalent foreign educational credential.
- Meet the general admissibility requirements for immigration to Canada.
- Sufficient financial capacity to support yourself and your family while in Canada.
- Must intend to live outside of the province of Quebec.
Why Choose FSW?
Successful applicants receive permanent residency status in Canada, allowing them to live and work indefinitely. Canada has a strong job market with opportunities across various sectors, offering skilled workers extensive career growth and development options.
Permanent residents in Canada have access to numerous social benefits. Through the FSW Program, applicants can also apply for Canadian citizenship and sponsor their family members for immigration to Canada.
How to Apply?
- Assess your eligibility criteria.
- Take the language tests.
- Submit an ECA (Educational Credential Assessment), if necessary.
- Prepare your documentation.
- Provide identification documents.
- Submit your Express Entry profile.
- Receive an ITA (Invitation to Apply).
- Submit your application.
- Undergo medical and security checks.
- Receive COPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residency).
Processing Time for FSW
The FSW Express Entry pool is valid for 365 days. After receiving an ITA, you have two months to submit your FSW application. The minimum processing time is typically 180 days. However, processing time can vary based on several factors.
- Age: While there is no specific age limit, younger candidates generally score better.
- Sponsorship: You cannot include your parents in your PR application under FSW, but you can sponsor them once you become a Canadian permanent resident. You can also nominate your spouse/CLP and children.
- FSW Funds: Demonstrating your financial condition is a mandatory requirement. IRCC wants to ensure you can support yourself and your family in Canada without relying on Canadian public funds.
